Beyond the Surface

The next generation of automotive plastics may look familiar, but what happens beneath the surface is changing dramatically. 👀

A dashboard surface can contain touch controls. Molded trim can incorporate printed circuits or sensors. What was once a simple protective housing may now become an active part of the device itself.

These developments open up exciting possibilities for automotive design. Fewer individual components, cleaner interiors and more functionality within the same space. But they also introduce a new layer of manufacturing complexity.

Materials must now work alongside conductive layers, adhesives and sensitive electronics. Melt temperature, injection pressure and material flow can affect integrated features. Even small changes in shrinkage or warpage may influence electrical performance and long-term reliability.

A part can look flawless and still carry a hidden functional weakness.

That's why bringing electronics and plastics together requires more than clever product design. It calls for close cooperation between designers, electronics specialists and molding engineers, ideally before tooling decisions are made.

Material selection, tool design, simulation and process validation all need to consider how the finished component will perform, not simply how it will look or fit.

At NS KUNSTSTOFFTECHNIK - CZ we believe this evolution reinforces something fundamental: the more responsibility a plastic component carries, the more valuable manufacturing expertise becomes.
